Falkirk regained consciousness with a start. He was driving. Not flying. He quickly swerved to avoid a pair of oncoming headlights.

“Watch it, Alan! You’re going to get us killed!” A light voice said to him. A voice that he had not heard for an eternity.

Turning his head quickly, he saw Melody Martinez, her beautiful, soft body seeming so young. And much less muscular. He quickly looked himself over. He was no longer the twenty-five year old test pilot that had worn his body thin from living on the bleeding edge, but the confident eighteen year old that had just graduated high school and had the whole world ahead of him.

In the cramped back seat of the Trans Am, Nate Dunn and Tom Simon sat. They were both going to meet their girlfriends at their destination. However, Falkirk could not remember his destination. As he closed in on his old high school, he began to remember. It was Grad Night. That’s where he was going. But he could still remember everything, the planes, the aliens, the annihilation of the world. Everything. But they, clearly, did not.

He turned the Trans Am into the parking lot, rumbling through and quickly finding a parking spot amongst the crowded lot. It was the same spot that he remembered parking in at Grad Night, seven years ago.

But it truly wasn’t seven years ago. He checked his watch, his tuxedo, the same ones as seven years ago. But his watch didn’t say 2008. It said 2001.

He exited the car. Tom and Nate had already left, running to the center of the school where the celebration was being held. Falkirk lingered briefly, waiting for Martinez.

“Alan, I’ve always wanted to tell you…” Martinez said, looking away, trailing off.

Falkirk realized that he had a chance to build a new future now. To create a new world, for himself and Melody. He would not squander this chance.

As they walked towards the center of the school, he put his arm around her, and looked longingly into her eyes. The stars twinkled above them, the night was cool and serene, moonlight glistening off of her soft skin. Falkirk leaned in and shared in a passionate kiss.

And then, he forgot.
